Tyrrell's Old Winery range is named after an historic Hunter Valley facility which was built in 1858. Tyrrell are famous for the pioneering of Chardonnay in Australia, being the first to commercially produce the varietal as a pure wine in 1971, the inaugural release of Australian Chardonnay. Tyrrell's were also one of the first to import small French oak barrels into Australia for the style. Old Winery continues Tyrrell's tradition of consistently producing the finest Chardonnay, wines which over deliver in terms of structure and varietal charm.

Tyrrell retain some of the finest vineyards throughout Australia, a tremendous resource from which to collate parcels of premium quality fruit to craft some of the nation's most popular wines. Chardonnay grapes for Old Winery are principally sourced from good estate vineyards in the Hunter Valley, choice parcels selected for their capacity to enhance structure, complexity and weight of palate. Local components are grown to the estate's Pokolbin and Ashmans Vineyards at the heart of Lower Hunter Valley, very near the historic Pokolbin wineworks. After harvesting and the press, juices are treated to a cool ferment and extended time on lees, some parts receive a short spell of age in French oak barriques.
Straw colour. A medium bodied wine with aromas of stonefruit and subtle vanillin oak. The palate is generously flavoured, leaning towards a white peach citrus flavour spectrum, with hints of spicy oak and a clean, crisp finish. Serve slightly chilled with chicken, seafood and pasta.
