Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon Petit Verdot McLaren Vale South Australia
It's well known that Shiraz and Cabernet make good bedfellows, but in a rare case of three's company, a tranche of Petit Verdot takes Scrubby Rise to another level, contributing vibrant colour and rich fragrances. All three varietals conspire to achieve the balance, elegance and structure of this sensational effort by Wirra Wirra. Scrubby Rise is a triumvirate of solid structure and generous fruit, It's the acid however which keeps the wine fresh without being weighed down by heavy tannins.
Located directly in front of the Wirra Wirra's century old ironstone cellars, the Scrubby Rise vineyard and it's marvellous soils produce some of the best Shiraz and Cabernet from season to season. Scrubby Rise also includes components from the estate's Finniss River Vineyard, twenty minutes south of the cellars on the Fleurieu Peninsula, as well as a drop or two from Blewitt Springs and Willunga. Quite rare in its varietal composition, the final blend has been chosen to construct a wine that displays balance, elegance, complexity and structure. Judicious use of seasoned French and American oak ensures that each individual batch achieves optimal sensory balance prior to assemblage.
Brilliant deep crimson with vibrant cherry red edge. Lifted red fresh fruits with a hint of blackberry rounded out by fragrant, spicy oak and a suggestion of mocha. Bright fresh raspberry notes dominate with a blackberry core backed up by silky tannins, finishing with a clean and vibrant freshness. Subtle oak plays a supportive role, adding to the appeal.
