Domaine Montirius is based near Sarrians to the northeast of Chateauneuf du Pape, in the prestigious appellations of Vacqueyras and Gigondas. Domaine Montirius make wines that are rounder and more voluptuous than their neighbouring estates. No wood is employed in the maturation, which preserves tremendous purity of fruit, expressing fully the concentration that comes from a high percentage of very old vines. Domaine Montirius Vacqueyras is a wonderfully vivacious, fuit driven wine of captivating depth and exceptional style.
An assemblage of Grenache and Syrah grown to a dozen parcels along the plateau of Garrigues around the village of Vacqueyras. Domaine Montirius is owned by a family of trained oenologist who consult to many notable estates in the southern Rhone. The entire 57 hectare estate has been operated under full biodynamic principles for many years. The excellence of the wines is a direct result of the quality of fruit grown to old vineyards, several key parcels were planted in 1925% The average age of vine is fifty five years, producing a mere 35 hectolitres per hectare. Soft, round and fruit driven, Domaine Montirius is matured without the introduction of oak to preserve the essential fruit and express the wonderful terroir.
Scarlet/ ruby colour. A nose of intense cherry, violets and licorice before a complex palate of rhubarb, currant and stalk supported by chewy, gamey tannins.
