Mt Difficulty Pinot Noir CONFIRM VINTAGE

Pinot Noir Central Otago New Zealand
Elite single vineyard Central Otago Pinot Noir, Mt Difficulty reflects the virtue of painfully low yields and uncompromising standards of winemaking. Grapes are sourced from the south side of Kawarau River at Bannockburn, where different clonal parcels on the same block, which can ripen together, are handled as a unique individual parcel. Exhibiting an amazing weight of fruit on the palate, a powerfully structured Otago Pinot, fleshy and plushly textured, finishing with a lovely extraction of velvet tannin and perfumed cherry plum richness.

Low fertility vineyards are managed by the Mt Difficulty viticultural team until harvest. Parcels of destemmed and whole bunch grapes are cold macerated and hand plunged throughout ten days of cold maceration. Batches are heated and inoculated to wild indigenous yeasts, a week of ferments are hand plunged once or twice daily as the temperatures peak at 30°C. Upon completion to dryness, batches remain on skins for a week or more as the daily hand plunging continues. Components are pressed off to barrel for a year of maturation on full sedimentery yeast lees. Natural malolactic commences in the spring, the wine is then racked out of barrel in late autumn and filtered before bottling. Alcohol 14.0%
