After founding Mornington's eminent Moorooduc Estate and decades crafting the most memorable vintages for Mornington's leading brands, Richard McIntyre established a tiny, single hectare vineyard, on a prominent, high elevation site at Arthur's Seat, with a view to producing limited yields of the most exquisite small batch wines. The techniques of choice are wild yeast ferments, minimal intervention and good French oak, with a nod to traditional Burgundian practices, which allow the wines to speak of provenance, express their specificity of clone and articulate their sense of place. An intensely currant flavoured rendition of Shiraz, supported by pliant, licorice tannins and seasoned by curls of fragrant tradewind spice.

Vines are cane pruned and use an arched cane pruning system. Canopy management plays an important role in controlling herbaceousness and achieving perfect flavour development. The soils at Balhannah Vineyard are free draining sandy loams over red clay with underlying quartzite and shale. The exclusively hand picked grapes are sorted and fermented, predominantly as whole bunches, the remainder whole berries in open fermenters, with gentle plunging and minimal working. Aged in 500L French oak puncheons over the course of fourteen months, followed by a further year of maturation in bottle under the estate cellars.
