Rockbare are raiders of precious but wayward vineyards, planted to outdated standards of viticulture, sadly unviable for large scale winemaking. These are however, precisely the nature of site that Rockbare choose to retain. Winemaker Tim Burvill worked at Wynns and Penfolds, where he refined his style alongside some of the best winemakers in the nation's history. Establishing his own label, he embarked upon a secret project to acquire parcels of prodigal Barossa vine. With a backbone of fruit grown to some of the oldest sites in Australia, much of Rockbare's fruit comes off vines a century or more of age. The intense power and complexity of Rockbare's resplendent range of wines are complimented by sweet oak and gripping tannins, culminating in vintages of extraordinary flavour and exquisite.. Tim Adams began his career as cellarhand at the Stanley Wine Company in 1975. He progressed to the position of laboratory assistant in the following year, with the encouragement of Mick Knappstein, Adams began his formal studies in viticulture. Years of passion and hard have achieved a range of the most elegant wines, without forgetting obligations to the Australian wine industry, environment and wider community. Following harvest and the crush, retaining only the first 500 litres per tonne of free run juice, a fortnight of ferments at 12°C to 14°C, is followed by protein and cold stabilization to normal standards, a minimal amount of sulphur dioxide has been used to finish the final wine.
Light, pale straw hue. Tim Adams shows very lifted Riesling character, citrus aromatics, lemon and fresh cut limes. The palate is seamless with a lovely moderate viscosity before a brisk acid finish. Clare Valley Rieslings are delicate yet animate and enduring, eminently enjoyable when young and zesty, sublime when left to mature.
