Lured to Australia by Alfred Deakin in 1887, the Chaffey Brothers were American irrigation engineers who took up a challenge to develop the dust bowls ofRenmark and Mildura into fruit growing wonderlands. They left our nation an extraordinary legacy and their progeny continue to make good wine. Several generations later, the Chaffey Bros are focused on the fruit of some grand old Barossa and Eden Valley sites. Chosen harvests of extraordinary grapes are the ticket for admission into the exclusive club of Chaffey vineyards. Shiraz is made in several different styles and there's a penchant for obscure white varietals in the Mosel River way. They make wine according to the art of the Parfumier, nothing is bottled unless it represents a profound experience in aromatic complexity. Tim Adams began his career as cellarhand at the Stanley Wine Company in 1975. He progressed to the position of laboratory assistant in the following year, with the encouragement of Mick Knappstein, Adams began his formal studies in viticulture. Years of passion and hard have achieved a range of the most elegant wines, without forgetting obligations to the Australian wine industry, environment and wider community. Following harvest and the crush, retaining only the first 500 litres per tonne of free run juice, a fortnight of ferments at 12°C to 14°C, is followed by protein and cold stabilization to normal standards, a minimal amount of sulphur dioxide has been used to finish the final wine.
Light, pale straw hue. Tim Adams shows very lifted Riesling character, citrus aromatics, lemon and fresh cut limes. The palate is seamless with a lovely moderate viscosity before a brisk acid finish. Clare Valley Rieslings are delicate yet animate and enduring, eminently enjoyable when young and zesty, sublime when left to mature.
