Returned servicemen from the Great War could look forward to government grants of pastoral freehold. West Australia's Willyabrup Valley was such a place, just a short walk from the balmy beaches of Indian Ocean, it offered the veterans excellent potential for agriculture. The fertile lands of Sussex Vale were originally established to animal husbandry by the discharged troopers, generations of livestock enriched the soils and it was astutely sown to vines in 1973. Fortuitously placed at the very heart of the Australian west's most illustrious estates, it continued to occupy the thoughts of neighbouring Howard Park's chief winemaker, until he.. The sensational vintages of St John's Road were generations in the making, the fruit of grand old vineyards and the progeny of families which have tilled Barossa soil since early settlement. The landed gentry along St John's Road represent a heritage of the most distinguished names in Australian viticulture, Lehmann and Lienert, Zander, Kalleske and Schutz. With each vintage, they earmark small parcels of the most exceptional Barossa fruit, to be treated to a course of traditional open ferments and term of age in the finest French oak. Bearing such pious Lutheran monikers as Prayer Garden and Resurrection Vineyard, these sacred sites are planted to.. Brought to you by barossa born & bred»
Some precious old blocks of ancient vine Grenache still remain after a government sponsored program to cull unproductive vineyards during the 1980s. Yielding excruciatingly small harvests of the most characterful fruit, these wizzened old veterans deliver small batch vintages which are evocative of the old world classics from Cotes du Rhone. The enduring Wirra Wirra were established 1894, their eclectic range belies the splendour of small parcels which are separately handled and bottled for exclusive release. The Absconder draws fruit from vines planted a century ago, it merits a breathing and decant, an articulation about the sublime excellence of.. The compelling case for old vines grenache»
Airline pilots make surprisingly good wine. Their appreciation of the sciences, a respect for the weather and a bird's eye view of the land, all invaluable to the winemaker's art. John Ellis would take every opportune weekend away from his regular New York Paris route, to pursue a passion for viticulture. He planted the first commercial Cabernet Merlot vines in the Hamptons and found time between trans atlantic flights to work vintages amongst the Grand Cru vineyards of La Bourgogne. Ellis ultimately made the great lifelong sea change in favour of our land downunder. He settled on a farmstead outside Leongatha, amongst the slow ripening pastures of.. Argiano Solengo Gift Set CONFIRM VINTAGE

Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Shiraz Montalcino Italy
Argiano is an ancient place, full of history, where wise men searched for the altar of the Roman god Janus. At the summit of a wonderful hill, southwest of Montalcino, the magnificent Villa of Argiano was built during the renaissance by the Peccis of Siena. Since 1500, the noble families of Tuscany produced wines from these superb vineyards for their own consumption and enjoyment. Solengo means lone wild boar, a muscular cepage of French varietals grown to rich Tuscan soils, profound for it's great finesse, refined balance and exceptional depth.
The cellars underneath the estate Villa remain the most precious jewel of Argiano. It's here, that since the sixteenth century, the wines can fine at constant temperature and humidity, in complete absence of light and noise. The maturation takes place in a selection of the finest coopered small and medium size casks to achieve a more subtle and balanced tannin extraction. The choice of oak is of fundamental importance and is in constant evolution. Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah are hand harvested into small baskets. Varietals are separately handled, macerated for a fortnight or more, fermented and treated to malolactic before transfer to a selection of completely new French oak barriques for up to seventeen months maturation.
Deep black purple colour. Bouquet of ripe fruits, blackberry and currants infused with toasty oak. Soft on the palate with great concentration of lush fruit, nicely in balance over the fine, smooth tannins. Impressive structure and complexity tempered by exemplary tannic extracts. The muscular cepage of Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah expresses discernible sunny Mediterranean characters. The grace and gentleness of it's structure fulfills the promise of immensely satisfying early drinking, while evolving complexity.
