The mean gravelly soils and invigorating climes of Mount Barker of the Australian southwest, were identified during the 1960s by the world's leading viticulturalists, as a place uncannily similar to the great terroirs and clime of Bordeaux. The pioneering vines of Forest Hill were the first ever planted here, sired from rootstock of ancient Houghton clones, inaugurally vintaged by the illustrious Jack Mann in 1972. The Cabernet and Riesling of Forest Hill were promptly distinguished by multiple trophy victories and praised by gentleman James Halliday as the most remarkable wines to come out of the Australian west. Cowrock Cabernet Franc Sauvignon Merlot 2005 CONFIRM 2005 VINTAGE

Cowrock Cabernet Franc Sauvignon Merlot 2005 - Buy
Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Merlot Margaret River Western Australia
The noble Bordeaux cepage of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, assembled into a deep dark brooding wine, rich yet approachable, alluringly aromatic yet substantial in palate and structure. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc contribute strength while Merlot softens the palate. Bursting with fragrant aromas of luscious berry fruits, lightly oaked but solidly fruit driven. Cowrock is endowed with softly textured tannins which provide seamless structure, playing a supportive role to a well proportioned and deeply satisfying wine.
The 2005 vintage provided mild summer conditions resulting in exceptional flavours and ripe tannins. Whilst the source vineyards are meticulously maintained by dedicated vignerons, the most significant factor influencing the quality of grapes is the maritime climate, so akin to France's Medoc. The largely Cabernet Franc component was selected for it's capacity to retain edifying varietal characters whilst in the company of the robust Cabernet Sauvignon and the seductively plummy Merlot. Cowrock is lightly wooded with new French oak and and an engaging drink even in its youth. Alcohol 14.0%
Plum red colour, purple hues. A fragrant aroma of sweet berry fruits, bright violets, mulberry and chocolate mint characters over spiced vanillan oak. Complex aromas lead onto the palate, for a highly flavoursome, balanced wine with a spicy white chocolate finish. Soft, round and beautifully detailed, a Cabernet dominant wine that calls for food, delicious with roast beef.
