At latitude 45 degrees south, Central Otago is the southernmost wine region in the world. Snow topped mountains, rocky ranges and dry tussock hills, a place of climatic extremes, bitterly cold winters, parched soils and discouragingly poor fertility. Designed by the angels in heaven for sublime and stupendous vintages of Pinot Noir. At the very epicentre of the most desirable confluence in Central Otago microclimes is Nanny Goat Vineyard. Conspicuous for her serious weight of fruit, splendid structure and chewy, textural palate, Nanny Goat make a magnificently endowed style, offering the understated power and presence to accompany gourmet game sausages, meaty.. Airline pilots make surprisingly good wine. Their appreciation of the sciences, a respect for the weather and a bird's eye view of the land, all invaluable to the winemaker's art. John Ellis would take every opportune weekend away from his regular New York Paris route, to pursue a passion for viticulture. He planted the first commercial Cabernet Merlot vines in the Hamptons and found time between trans atlantic flights to work vintages amongst the Grand Cru vineyards of La Bourgogne. Ellis ultimately made the great lifelong sea change in favour of our land downunder. He settled on a farmstead outside Leongatha, amongst the slow ripening pastures of Gippsland.. William James Maxwell was an architectural sculptor who migrated from Scotland to Australia in 1875. He built a mock castle and established a family vineyard just outside Adelaide, which he named Woodlands Park. His son planted vines in nearby McLaren Vale and his grandson served a term as winemaker for Hardy Wines at the historic Tintara wineworks. William Maxwell's progeny remain in McLaren Vale, producing the southern hemisphere's most successful brands of Honey Mead, as well as vintages of the most extraordinary value in McLaren Vale Shiraz. But what does Maxwell taste like? Gentleman James Halliday describes Maxwell as robust, picking the eyes out of.. Made of mature vine mclaren vale »
Planted to the tranquil Shangri-La of a sun warmed slope in Yarra Valley, TarraWarra was established 1983 by the founders of the Sussan and Sportsgirl brands. Philanthropists and patrons of the arts, Mr and Mrs Besen, AO and AO respectively, took a highly aesthetic approach to the pursuit of viticulture. Healthy soils and happy fauna were the means to an end, good wine comes from a sound ecology, but great wine needs the inspiration of a holistic engagement with the arts. It is here at Healesville that habitues can savour the Sauvignon while immersing themselves amongst the work of our national masters. A costly collection of canvas by our merry Messrs Boyd.. Bodegas Alion Ribera Del Duero CONFIRM VINTAGE

Tempranillo Ribera Del Duero Spain
An exclusively Tempranillo wine, Bodega Alion caused a great stir amongst the industry press after their inaugural release. Fruit is collated from the most splendid vineyards along Ribera Del Duero, treated to a traditional, old world vinification, followed by a term of extravagant new oak maturation and a year or more in the stillness of the bottle before release. A refined Spaniard of the most opulent and intense character, a complex and well fleshed wine, distinguished by its elegance, seamlessness and remarkable structure.
Parcels of Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) are picked off vines twenty five to thirty years of age. Fruit is sourced from vineyards adjacent the Bodega Alion wineworks and from mother company Vega Sicilia's own estate properties at Valbuena. Hand picked grapes are placed into wooden crates and poured over a sorting table. Alion is crafted in the modern Bordeaux cru classe style, employing modern facilities and lots of new oak. Grapes are treated to a traditional vinification and malolactic in open vats. During the January following vintage, Alion is transfered to a selection of new French Bordeaux coopered oak barrels for a year's maturation, bottling and a further year of age under the estate cellars.
Ruby red, violet hues. Clean, fruit and floral bouquet, a wine in pure condition. Powerful entrance, full palate, exhibiting outstanding balance between acid and fruit, tannins and oak, the presence of Tempranillo varietal character remains prominent. The essential elegance of the Alion style dominates the long, persistent finish.
