Established 1973, Woodlands of Wilyabrup were one of the first vineyards in Margaret River, planted with a view to emulating the great growths of Bordeaux. Recipients of the highly prestigious Jack Mann Memorial Medal and Wine Industry Lifetime Achievement Award for their tremendous vintages of all things Cabernet. Assembling the rich Medoc style blends are what Woodlands do best. Painstakingly crafted by hand, to challenge the primacy of the illustrious Chateaux de la rive gauche, very few vineyards yield the quality of fruit that merits vintaging into a statuesque wine dominated by the prettily fragrant Cabernet Franc. Woodlands were established from the.. The complex bordeaux blend by one of margaret river's founding wineries»
Some precious old blocks of ancient vine Grenache still remain after a government sponsored program to cull unproductive vineyards during the 1980s. Yielding excruciatingly small harvests of the most characterful fruit, these wizzened old veterans deliver small batch vintages which are evocative of the old world classics from Cotes du Rhone. The enduring Wirra Wirra were established 1894, their eclectic range belies the splendour of small parcels which are separately handled and bottled for exclusive release. The sensational vintages of St John's Road were generations in the making, the fruit of grand old vineyards and the progeny of families which have tilled Barossa soil since early settlement. With each vintage, they earmark small parcels of the most exceptional Barossa fruit, to be treated to a course of traditional open ferments and term of age in the finest French oak. François and Robert Hine were inspired by the beauty of a unique crystal decanter to bottle their flagship Cognac. Antique went on to become a huge success. Ninety years later, the House of Hine reinterprets Antique, now an XO Premier Cru, from fruit grown to undulating vineyards in Lignères Sonneville and Criteuil La Magdeleine, Touzac and Bonneuil. Hine's distinguished Cellar Master has achieved the perfect harmony through an assemblage of over forty Cognacs, of which the youngest are aged at least ten years and the oldest several decades.
Deep dark golden amber hue. A sensory journey, complex, rich and long persistent aromas of vanilla and honey, baked apple and spice before hints of liquorice and leather. Rich and rounded, lovely rancio on both nose and palate, deeper and more complex than its peers, it’s immediately identifiable by a unique raisiny concentration, with an unobtrusive touch of oak that holds the noble blend together.
