Tempranillo produces a wine rich in alcohol, with moderate acids, and attractive aromatics of black plum, cherries and raspberry. It ages well and gracefully. Torres has been associated with innovative vineyard management and quality driven winemaking for decades. Since they became the first in Spain to use stainless steel equipment, Torres have produced outstanding old world wines from the traditional Spanish varietals. Great significance is placed on selection of site, the altitude and microclimate of the vineyards. A mostly Tempranillo wine with a smaller portion of Cabernet Sauvignon. Cultivated in Central Penedes, inland Catalonia and many other parts of Spain, the Tempranillo berries are moderately sized, with good dark colour and a hard skin. Torres was treated to maturation in Americano 300 litros quercas barriques para doces meses!
An opaque ruby red colour. Generous and intense varietal aromas, hints of blackcurrant and vegemite, bay leaf, curant and olive. The lingering bouquet offers up a complexity of red fruits, tobacco and sour cherry. Some florals appear over a background of blackberry and scorched earth, coffee and thyme. A lingering, fruity finish with lively acid structure and affable tannins, in a wine that would blissfully suit a standing rib roast.
