Lindsay McCall's enthusiasm for great wine began in the 1970s, he established his first Mornington plantings in 1985 on the site of a derelict orchard at Red Hill along Paringa Road. From day one, McCall focused on exactingly managing the soils and the vines, after completing his day job as local school teacher. His affinity for the land and astonishing feel for winemaking produced monumental vintages of Pinot Noir, which propelled the exquisite range of Paringa Estate wines to international renown. Right next to the Merry Widow Inn at Glenrowan, infamous of Kelly gang folklore, Richard Bailey set up shop to service prospectors during the great Victorian gold rush of the 1860s. Rows of newly planted Shiraz soon followed and the Baileys released their first vintage in 1870. Hurtle Walker first picked grapes as a ten year old on the celebrious Magill property in 1900. Soave by name and suave by nature, the rejuvenating white wines from this tiny commune in the Veneto, are enjoyed around the globe for their remarkable approachability and stylish old world charm. Corte Giara is a cooperative of the best growers, they assemble their harvests every vintage to create a Denominazione di Origine Controllata, a predominantly Garganega wine in the tradition of the region, vinified alongside a component of locally grown Chardonnay. Corte Giara are a balance between the old and new world styles of wine. While remaining true to their regional Italian roots, they are innovatively crafted with inclusions of expatriate varietal grapes to create wines of great interest. Harvests of Garganega and Chardonnay, are all hand picked off fully mature vines in their third decade, grown to volcanic calcareous soils and trained to the Pergola system, planted to southeast facing hillsides at 150-250 metres above sea level in D.O.C. Soave. Bunches are destemmed and gently crushed into fermenters for a day of cold settle maceration, vinified for up to ten days at a cool 15C, followed by partial malolactic in October and four months unwooded maturation.
Intense straw yellow hue, green highlights. Classic Verona nose, inviting and fresh, wild flowers and white peach characters, vibrant vegetable notes. Refreshing fruit within a supply structured, well rounded palate, juicy green vegetable characters and sliced pear flavours, before a cleansing, pleasingly dry finish.
