Jack Mann reigns eternal as the greatest winemaker in the history of the Australian west. Jack Mann's son Tony grew up amongst the vineyards of Houghton but took a keener interest in things Cricket. He exelled at both pursuits but is best remembered as the legendary leg spinner Tony Rocket Mann. During his off seasons away from the pitch, Tony would plant parcels of vine alongside his illustruious father Jack and his own young son Robert. The development of Bin 51 Eden Valley Riesling marks a new chapter in a long history of Penfolds trail blazing endeavours in white winemaking. Penfolds has established and fostered Eden Valley vineyards which are entirely specialized for the yielding of world class Riesling grapes, suitable for flagship wines with the capacity for long term, elegant ageing. A subregion of the Barossa, Eden Valley is approximately 450 metres above sea level. The Penfolds vineyards are located on particularly lean soil structures. The higher altitudes mean a cooler growing season, ideal for the aromatic varietals, Riesling in particular. Bin 51 spends three months at rest before being bottled early to retain varietal elegance.
