Mount Difficulty are a commune of growers, established 1998 within the elite dress circle of Central Otago vineyards. Propitiously placed around the ancient goldfields of Cromwell Basin, their harvests had long been called upon for bottling under the labels of New Zealand's most conspicuous brands. Launched as a limited release of small batch, single block vintages, the co operative of accomplished growers, has evolved through critical acclaim and word of mouth, into a formidable range of Central Otago, defined by their excellence and exquisite eloquence of.. Venerable vignerons of the very deep south»
There were two scrub covered parcels of land, just outside Pokolbin village along McDonalds Road, that local council had long set aside for use as cricket ground and cemetery. Both were ultimately auctioned off to the highest bidders and sown to vine. A third undeveloped site became the subject of a long running feud among the new and old neighbours. Dodgy invoices between the rivals were exchanged and the division of firewood became a further cause of contention. A truce was eventually called by the two protagonists, Brokenwood and Hungerford Hill, for the sake of healthy viticulture. The nascent blocks achieved international renown as the eminent Cricket Pitch and the Langtons Listed Graveyard Vineyard, establishing Brokenwood as one of the most cherished.. Beresford

First established as a grape-growing region in 1838, it wasn’t until the late 1880’s that McLaren Vale really boomed, developing a fine reputation for full bodied red wines. At the turn of the century a strong export market into the UK was created, long after exports from the other regions of Australia had dwindled. The proximity of the sea in the form of Gulf St Vincent, provides tempering sea breezes offering an excellent micro-climate for viticulture. With well structured soils, the Vale is a haven of consistency. Its endearing beauty, peaceful tranquility and gently undulating hills continue to attract people with their solitude and grace. A long tradition of full flavoured wines is being upheld by Beresford Wines.

Beresford's grapes are selected from as far as the windy Southern end of the Vale at Willunga, with its higher aspect and shallow, shaly soils, to the richer loams of Blewett Springs. Each source vineyard has been carefully selected for its distinctive flavour and aroma, profile, contributing its own uniqueness to each blend.

The winemakers at Beresford are very much hands on, working in partnership with the growers, from pruning through to the ripening season to ensure balanced vines and maximum fruit flavour development. The effort in sourcing the best fruit allows Beresford Wines to capture the true Essence of McLaren Vale.
