Just three kilometres from Young along Murringo Road, planted to a brisk 500 metres above sea level, Grove Estate was originally sown to vines in 1886, by Croatian settlers who brought cuttings from their farms on the Dalmatian coast. Although all bourbon is whiskey, not all whiskey is bourbon. By law, to be called a straight bourbon whiskey, the mash bill must contain at least 51 percent corn, be distilled at no more than 160 proof and aged in new, charred oak barrels for a minimum of two years. Booker Noe, sixth-generation Beam and grandson of Jim Beam, joined the family business after graduating from the University of Kentucky in 1950. Booker proved to be a quick study, and in 1960, became the master distiller of Jim Beam.

Copper to medium amber hue. Aroma is of toasted nuts, grain and smelly oak. Tastees of rich, sweet mash, woody and full-bodied, almost fruity with a finish that's long, rich and glowing. The extra ageing allows it to absorb more of the sugar in the wood, giving it a slightly sweeter taste and nose.
