So skillful and dedicated are the winemaking team at Yealands Estate, they have earned International Wine Challenge award for world's best Sauvignon Blanc. It is from their zero carbon certified wineworks in Wairau Valley, that the viticulturalists can source fruit for the construct of generously proportioned yet balanced wines which are in complete harmony with the environment. Whale's Tale is a crisp, fruit forward representation of Marlborough, perfect alongside fine cheese or freshly tossed chicken caesar.
Harvests of Sauvignon Blanc are collated from good vineyards throughout the finer winegrowing precincts of Marlborough. The fast draining, low fertility soils, warm days and chilly nights form a mesoclime that's unmatched anywhere else in the world for yielding lusciously fruit driven Sauvignon Blanc wines. Grapes are crushed and gently pressed before cold settling. The clear juices are racked off and inoculated to choice yeasts. A long cool vinification in controlled fermenters captures and retains the vibrancy of Marlborough fruit. Batches are treated to a term on lees before assembling into the finished wine, stabilised and filtered prior to bottling.
Light straw hue. Lifted nose of passionfruit and lychee flower, kiwis and kaffir lime. A lifted blackcurrant palate, complexed by notes of wet stone and thyme, elegant yet full with sufficient weight and texture to mate alongside white meat roasts, all balanced by flinty minerality. A splendid match to goat’s cheese flan and the freshest seafood.
