Penfolds Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz CONFIRM VINTAGE

Shiraz Barossa South Australia
Bin 150 is pure Shiraz, vinified from fruit grown to a relatively tiny area of Barossa. The hamlet of Marananga lies very close to the centre of the Barossa Valley floor, slightly to the north and west, where warm, dry conditions and rich red soils create a mesolclime which has sired many of the Barossa's most conspicuous efforts. Bin 150 delivers a contemporary Shiraz style, framed by a mix of French and American oak, old and new, conceived from the ancient soils of a special place and crafted from fruit grown to one of Australia's earliest viticultural precincts.
The development of Penfold Shiraz reflects extraordinary progress in viticulture and winemaking. The two disciplines are increasingly intertwined, as growers and winemakers work together in search of optimum balance, ripeness and flavour. Few winemakers can command such expertise to train their vineyards to produce fruit of voluptuous intensity, ripe tannins, and juicy flavours. Bin 150 is a contemporary and compelling Barossa Valley Shiraz, mischievously playing in a zone somewhere between the eminent Penfold Red Wine Trial and the famously approachable Bin 28. Matured for a year in a selection of new and seasoned French and American oak hogsheads and puncheons.
Mauve red hue at core. Bright blue fruits immediately ascend, as do violet florals, a glossy aromatic halo, a sheen of linseed and meal. Nougat, nutty pecan notes merge with oak. Bright palate, succulent and juicy, stylishly defined with a complex, layered structure, length. Carpaccio and corned beef, aspic notes prevail, yet with air and time in glass darker characters arise, black jelly and mocha notes. Fine yet gripping tannins and minimal oak underpin.
